Description

The overall objective of the proposed RDP is to improve the level and security of rural peoples’ livelihoods, through increased participation of rural communities in sustainable economic development, enhanced local governance and improved access to priority rural services and infrastructure identified in a participatory manner.



The expected outcomes of the proposed project include:


  • Increased capacity of the Solomon Islands Government at central and sub-national level to provide services and infrastructure in rural areas, in partnership with private and non governmental service providers, on the basis of participatory planning processes;

  • Increased capacity of both public and private service providers in rural areas;

  • Improved access to economic services and infrastructure for villagers and rural communities;

  • The adoption and dissemination of innovation (new technologies, marketing practices, etc.) by agricultural/rural entrepreneurs; and

  • A strengthened institutional framework to support agricultural development.
