LML joins celebrations in Timor-Leste to mark 10 years of independence
Landell Mills Ltd's Greg Munford joined the jubilant celebrations of the Timorese in Dili last week to mark the ten-year anniversary of the rebirth of this small but proud nation. The incoming President Taur Matan Ruak led the festivities in a milestone year for Asia's poorest nation.
Timor-Leste has enjoyed several years of relative peace but faces a crucial period in the slow but steady evolution of its sovereignty, with general elections due in July 2012 and UN forces set to depart by the end of the year.
LML has been engaged in provision of technical assistance consulting services to the EDF-funded Rural Development Programme Phase III (RDP3) since 2009. Despite considerable early setbacks, the Country's ten-year anniversary sees the Programme securing significant success in it's target province of Manufahi. Much is still to be done to overcome persistent challenges but the experience of sharing the joy of our Timorese colleagues on this momentus occasion has been a great moral boosting experience for the entire RDP3 team.
