Landell Mills delivers Panj-Amu River Basin Agency Data Management Training in Afghanistan

Our consultants recently organised an orientation training in Taloqan City, Afghanistan under the Strengthening Integrated Water Resource Management in Mountainous River Basins project. This initiative is funded by the Japanese Fund for Poverty Reduction, administered by the Asian Development Bank and managed by Landell Mills.

The Panj-Amu River Basin Agency (RBA) Data Management Training was designed to assess knowledge and qualifications of the RBA staff for data management and analysis required for River Basin Management. Ten participants took part, including hydrologists and water data management directors from the Panj-Amu RBA and associated Sub-basin Agencies. They attended classroom sessions in the morning, followed by applied practical training exercises in the afternoon. Participants strengthened their knowledge of spatial planning, and geographic and visual tools such as Google Earth, GPS and GIS systems. They also improved their knowledge of river height and flow data collection, and the use of this data in water resource planning.

I have undertaken many training sessions and workshops with MEW before, but this one was better because it was given in the local language, dealt with relevant required topics, practical field work, as well as sharing and exchanging ideas and knowledge.

Landell Mills will repeat and build on the training with an expanded data management session in 2019.
