News 05.12.14 Laos Environment, water, climate change and disaster risk reduction

The Biochar training course was attended by over 20 participants including local government staff, scientists, entrepreneurs and farmers. All are currently involved in the project pilot study which utilises biomass for bio-fertilisers and soil amendments.

Over two days, participants shared their experience of using biochar to date and reviewed the progress of the pilot study. They were introduced to different biochar technology and production techniques through kiln design specification, improved biofertiliser composition and hands on practices for making pre & post biochar treatment.

The training was led by Dr Stephen Joseph and is part of a wider training component of this regional capacity development technical assistance project. Similar trainings will be conducted in Cambodia and Vietnam this month.
