Landell Mills wins new contracts to support coffee sector in Timor-Leste

Landell Mills is pleased to share the details of three new ADB-funded contracts in Timor-Leste that have recently been awarded. The contracts are all awarded under the Coffee and Agroforestry Livelihood Improvement Project, an ADB grant-funded project, for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The project will strengthen value chains, improve market linkages and increase quality throughout the coffee chain, underpinning implementation of Timor-Leste’s new coffee sector development plan and piloting a new model for delivering extension services to 2000 coffee farming households.

‘Implementation Support Consultant’ is a $1.8m contract spanning four years which aims to target productivity and quality improvements in the coffee sector in Timor-Leste through a number of outputs. Under this contract, Landell Mills will assess and recommend IT solutions for a government farmer information management system, design and deliver training on productivity improvement and climate smart agriculture to 2,000 coffee farmers and pilot a new model for delivering extension services to coffee farmers.

The ‘Agronomic Research and Testing Consultant’ contract, valuing $200,000, will provide technical support to research and development specific to coffee variety and coffee technology sectors, including: supporting the development of improved protocols for nursery management; supporting the completion of any required genetic profiling; and establishing research and demonstration plots. As part of this contract, Landell Mills will support the set up a multi-location variety research trial and On-Farm Technology Trials to generate high quality data about the performance of different coffee varieties and agronomic practices in Timor-Leste.

‘Quality Improvement and Marketing Consultant’ is a $212,000 contract which will target quality and marketing improvements by providing technical leadership and support the development of: the national quality standards and grading system; a coffee industry marketing plan; annual coffee quality competitions; and an information and knowledge platform.
