Over 200 stakeholders convene in Lagos to advance healthcare electrification financing in Nigeria
In June 2026, more than 200 stakeholders from Nigeria's health, energy and finance sectors gathered at the Civic Centre in Lagos for the National Healthcare Electrification Investor Matchmaking Event, held under the Developing a Structured Approach to Healthcare Electrification in Nigeria programme implemented by Landell Mills. The programme seeks to address the significant energy challenges facing healthcare facilities across the country.
Organised by Landell Mills in collaboration with the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative and UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions), the Investor Matchmaking Event aimed to catalyse financing partnerships that can accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy solutions across Nigeria's healthcare facilities.
Recent assessments have shown that unreliable electricity remains a major obstacle to healthcare delivery. Secondary healthcare facilities receive an average of just 7.4 hours of grid electricity per day, while tertiary facilities receive approximately 11 hours. Frequent outages, voltage fluctuations and reliance on expensive diesel generators continue to affect healthcare operations, increase costs and undermine service delivery.
Recognising that sustainable healthcare electrification requires both technical solutions and long-term financing, the Investor Matchmaking Event was designed to connect healthcare institutions directly with investors, financiers, development partners and renewable energy developers.
The event brought together representatives from 85 healthcare facilities, 29 financial institutions and investors, and 22 renewable energy developers. Participants also included senior government officials, development partners, and sector leaders including the Honourable Minister of Power and the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare.
The Investor Matchmaking Event featured:
- high-level remarks from government representatives.
- technical presentations on healthcare electrification challenges and opportunities.
- investment pitches from financial institutions and development partners.
- structured networking sessions designed to facilitate direct engagement between healthcare facilities and potential financing partners.
A key component of the event was the presentation of financing opportunities and investment approaches tailored to the healthcare sector. Participants explored how innovative financing models, blended finance mechanisms and private sector partnerships can support the transition from costly and unreliable energy systems towards sustainable, clean energy solutions.
The event also built upon a broader capacity-building programme delivered under the Developing a Structured Approach to Healthcare Electrification in Nigeria project. Prior to the matchmaking forum, healthcare facility representatives participated in specialised training on finance and investment mobilisation, equipping them with the skills required to develop investment-ready proposals, understand investor requirements and engage effectively with potential financing partners.
The structured matchmaking sessions generated significant interest across the sector. A total of 74 deal discussions were initiated during the event, involving 14 financiers and investors, and 49 healthcare facilities. While all engagements remain at the pre-feasibility stage, these early conversations represent an important first step towards developing a pipeline of bankable healthcare electrification projects.
The event highlighted growing recognition among both healthcare institutions and financial stakeholders that reliable, sustainable energy is essential to improving healthcare outcomes and strengthening the resilience of Nigeria's health system.
By creating a platform for direct engagement between healthcare facilities, investors, developers and policymakers, the Investor Matchmaking Event has laid the foundation for future partnerships capable of delivering long-term, sustainable improvements in healthcare energy access across Nigeria.
Landell Mills is proud to support the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative and UK PACT in advancing innovative approaches to healthcare electrification and sustainable development.
