Consultant – trade and investment
Tell us about your role on the project that you’ve consulted on for Landell Mills.
As Team Leader of the EU Africa Business Facility, I guide a multicultural, multidisciplinary team, and provide strategic direction to the project for building business intelligence and catalysing investment partnerships between Europe and Africa. Together, we work to mobilise finance and develop pipelines of investment-ready opportunities, strengthening trade and value chains under the Global Gateway.
Our project focuses on organising EU Business Fora across Africa and driving active private-sector engagement to build a robust pipeline of business and investment opportunities between Africa and Europe. Through these platforms, we bring together European and African companies, financiers, technology providers, importers and exporters. The goal is to strengthen EU–Africa partnerships, fostering closer collaboration and driving value addition along priority strategic value chains.
What does a typical day look like in your role on the project?
Our team of young professionals operates as a virtual, collaborative team spread across Europe, Africa and Asia. Each member brings to the team a set of expertise, and as a team we have a deliberate strategy to break silos, share skills, and adapt rapidly to ensure efficiency and impact for our client. Our dynamic, young team thrives on teamwork, agility and creativity, enabling us to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
What skills do you use most within your role on the project?
I rely on a mix of leadership, diplomacy and strategic vision, but most importantly, I work to bring out the best in my team. We focus on empowering young talent, fostering mutual growth and ensuring efficient delivery. I believe in inspiring, motivating and helping the team take ownership of their work, while driving a strong sense of satisfaction and pride in what they deliver. Balancing rigour with collaboration and innovation is at the heart of our motto.
What previous experience or qualifications proved most useful within your role on the project?
I bring over three decades of experience in development cooperation, trade and investment, with deep knowledge of the EU system and Africa’s private sector. Having lived and worked across Africa, I understand both policy and practice, and how to bridge them effectively. Combined with the energy and innovation of my younger colleagues, this creates a powerful team that can navigate complexity and unlock opportunities.
What do you enjoy about working with Landell Mills as a consultant?
I value the trust, independence and support that Landell Mills provides. The absence of micromanagement gives my team and I the freedom to operate with confidence and autonomy, while Landell Mills’ headquarters offers timely backstopping when necessary. This balance empowers us to deliver impact with creativity.
What has been your most memorable moment whilst working at Landell Mills?
One of my proudest moments was deploying my team simultaneously to deliver EU Business Fora in Zimbabwe, Kenya and Ghana. Watching them seamlessly manage complex events on the ground – while engaging governments, businesses and financiers – was deeply rewarding. It highlighted the energy, quality and impact we strive for in everything we do.
