Tree Crops Inspection Services

The purpose of this project was to establish an Inspection Service for NES/PIR and PMU based projects. This project looked after the needs of 14000 farmers throughout Sulawesi. The broad objectives of the Inspection Service were to ensure that:tree crops cultivation was of acceptable agricultural standardcertain management aspects and specific project site requirements were inspected; civil works programmes were implemented to the required standards; expenditures incurred were commensurate with on-site developments; important smallholders’ aspects, such as credit and farmers organisations were monitored and evaluated. Specifically, the objectives were to monitor, evaluate, and inspect the physical performance and investment under both NES/PIR and PMU projects. Also the project established key indicators in consultation with all parties involved with the finance and implementation of NES/PIR and PMU projects for the purpose of assessing physical progress and submission of reports based on such evaluations

Provision of Master Fisherman

Following the development of a successful Java Sea Pelagic Fishery Programme, Landell Mills were requested to provide a Master Fisherman to strengthen the capacity of the fishing industry in Java. His responsibility was to supply training to crews of local fishing vessels on the installation, use and maintenance of new fishing devices. New equipment was brought in on the recommendation of gear and vessel technologists to improve capabilities and enhance the effectiveness of the cruises.

Technical Assistance Advisory Mission (Multi-Sectoral)

Landell Mills fielded 3 experts in the energy, transport and distribution sectors forming part of a delegation of 5 fields of expertise, to advise the Government on Technical Assistance requirements. Each sector team had a budget of ECU 80 million and made recommendations for the areas in most need of assistance.

As independent management consultants, LML were selected to assist TACIS in their evaluation of the 175 offers from European companies who had expressed interest in the 1993 programme. This programme (comprising 8 or 9 discrete projects) was budgeted at 14 MECU.

Animal Feeds Development Project

The objective of the project was to improve the availability and quality of livestock products and to improve the efficiency and incomes of producers, and in particular to overcome constraints on the availability and quality of animal feeds as a major factor-limiting livestock production. LM provided a team of consultants to: carry out a study of the animal feeds sector and propose a master plan providing a blueprint for future development and identification of major problems and bottlenecks; provide a set of recommended standard specifications for manufacture of feeds; provide improved feed analysis laboratory facilities and feed formulation systems and improvement of feed quality at minimal cost. The consultant also provided assistance and training in the operation of an animal feed mill in an industry evolving from a production oriented base to a market led industry, and from the state to private sector.

Maharashtra Composite Irrigation Project

Landell Mill fielded a mixed European/Indian team to carry out a project preparation study for World Bank appraisal. The objective of the project was to complete and revitalise a set of irrigation schemes established between 1980 - 85 in order to maximise economic benefits.
